Updated location: heritage lot by rising silo! https://maps.app.goo.gl/sQH2qETEaYHhegeU9?g_st=ic
Good morning regents, I have been informed by a trail spirit, that the spirit for trail is high. I'm a little high too. High on trail vibes that is. I want you all to be so high with me too. So bring your children, bring your grandparents. Hell, bring your dog. (Please bring your dog). Ok, Mariel will be mad at me if I go too off the rails. So to finish with a rhyme, I hope to see y'all on the trails. Where will we meet? Creepy question! (mind your own business). But, if I were to tell you. It'd probably be at the James Pandapas Pond (hold on, he sold it in the 80s, now it is forest service domain). Where at the Pandapas? Well the LOWER LOT of course (you goof). It would probably be at 5:30 if we did though... With regards from afards, Mertman Wertmert
I don’t have time to craft a witty email today unfortunately, so here is the deets! Who: us, the club. What: a run tonight, with boba at Kung fu tea to follow. When: starting at 5:30 pm Where: Pandapas pond, upper lot Why? Because we like to party on a nice hot Tuesday night! Join us, please! Olivia
Good morning my lovely, lively little lads; lassies;etc Let’s leap our long (or short) legs, launching our sleek running gear over each dirt hill; rock; stump; root Tonight we meet at the upper heritage park parking lot- 2300 Glade Rd, Blacksburg, VA 24060 We’re planning on heading east and running (walking) up gateway (whew) but there’s a nice long descent to follow We’re also planning to visit rising silo afterwards and eat some chips and drinks some kombucha. Maybe even dance a little bit on the mulch. Anything could happen, it’s Thursday, you know? Join us, please, most of us are old and wrinkled and we feed off the energy of the new club members. You laugh but I’m NOT JOKING. Olivia
Good morning, I visited a secret, partially deserted trail last week. While I was lacing up my shoes, an old man sitting in a truck beckoned towards me and asked if I wanted a cigarette. I politely declined and ran away quickly. We’re going to recreate that sharing energy tonight. We’ve got to run tonight! Meet us at the McDonald’s Hollow parking lot at 5 pm: (37.2381315, -80.4739442) Come be with us. I’ve got two sourdough pretzels to share. Bring an item to share if you wish. It does not need to be a cigarette Olivia
Update: we’re now starting at 6pm this evening. Thank you Olivia
Hello! We are scheduling a classic run this evening in these lovely warmer temperatures. We will be meeting at Pandapas pond, upper parking lot, at 5:30 to begin running. Running in a direction, we will run on a run undetermined running route, running up and down and running left and running right run until we run right into running runners that aren’t running with us. But it’s okay. We’ll just keep running. Sometimes I might walk up the hills. Please join us. 5:30 Pdpaas Pond upper lot.
Trailblazers, There is a new route in store for you at 5:30 pm tonight. To show our love for fossil fuels and our economy's blind reliance upon them, we will run a c.a 5 mile route down Pipelines: https://maps.app.goo.gl/gvSGgimjifDfAsKq9?g_st=ac You will get a prime view of the MVP (Most Valuable Polluter) about a half mile into the run. Unfortunately, I must dissuade you from bringing monkey wrenches as I do not want the club on the wrong side of the law. Due to limited parking space, carpooling is encouraged. Text me at (***) *** **** if you would like a ride! Yours (sadly) sans monkey wrench, Mariel
Trail troubadours, Wonder weather this evening, I daresay! Join us at the Gateway Lot (north end of Heritage Park) for an evening of family-friendly-definitely-not-suspect trail fun! Yours, Mariel
My silly self forgot to specify a time. 6pm!
Dear trailheads, A last-minute but nevertheless exciting trail opportunity has arisen just for you! We will be meeting at about 5:30pm at these coordinates: (google maps), from whence we will embark on a wild and wonderful 8-9 mile loop (Fire Road -> Beauty -> valley trails -> Horse -> road to parking spot). It may wind up being shorter depending on vibes, in which case we will text all those attending. If you would like to be amongst our ranks tonight, text me at (***) *** ****, and I will make it happen---even if it means giving rides in my souped-up Subaru. Yours, Mariel
Trail Troupe, The time is upon us. The weather warms. A brief window of snowy Pandapas sans killer wind has opened. An oppotunity arises: Tomorrow, 6pm, Upper Lot. Do we rise to the challenge (c.a 5 miles, flatter trails to avoid ice slip-n-slides), where glory surely awaits? (***) *** **** OR (***) *** **** for rides Melodramatically yours, Mariel
Greetings individuals, It is with great pleasure that I present you all with the opportunity to get cold on the trail this evening. I'm talkin wet shoe'd, frostnipped extremeties, teeth chattering chills, the whole works. "Why ever would i want to do such a thing?" you might ask. Well, for (1.) it will keep the voices quiet (at least for a little bit) and (2.) you can contribute novel information into the hive mind slowly accruing sentience that we choose to call a trail club. Come on down to the Pandapas UPPER lot at 4:15pm this evening and test your limits, or just whine like a lil bitch, that's fine too. With consideration of the dwindling middle-class, yours humbly, Emdirt Wormman
Hello! We have a very special event planned this evening. Our Pandapas trails are so icy, not even the most gutsy, fearless, mountaineering trailhead could pass. And that’s on Poverty. While this sounds fun to some, mayhaps even like a challenge, what we don’t want is a lawsuit on our hands. Not after last year. So. We’ve gotten together and decided that we shall run in town. Now you beware, my sweet little trail angels. I’ve been told that the sidewalks in town are nothing to shake a stick at. In fact, they may be just as icy as the trails at pdaps. With that in mind, this may be a literal, in-the-road run. But you know what? There is strength in numbers. And I believe that if we band together like some freaking hooligans and hit the streets, the cars can’t ignore us. Hell, they’ll bounce OFF of us!!! I’ll leave you with this: we want this to be a run to remember. If you send your name and an address (doesn’t have to be your living address, if you crave privacy) to ***-***-****, me and my crew will find you. We will run to your home, if you wish. Or the Kroger if you want us to meet you there. We will absorb you into our group. And we will run this goddamn town. Today. Starting at 3-3:30ish pm. 3-5 fun miles to follow. We’re not sure where the day will take us. With love, Olivia Gardner (Golive)
Hey YALL! It’s Going to Snow. We’ve got to beat it Join us, please? Saturday, January 24th Pandapas pond upper lot 11 AM No headlamp needed! Me rn:![]()

I met a trail runner from an antique land, Who said—"Two vast and trunkless legs of trail Stand in pandapas... Near them, on the dirt, Half sunk a shattered trail shoe lies, whose sole, And wrinkled aglet, and sneer of ultras run, Tell that its wearer well those routes lead Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless joe pye, The hand that picked them, and the sweat that rivuleted; And on the email, these words appear: My name is Emmet, trail runner of trails; Look on my words, ye Mighty, and despair! Nothing beside remains. Round the upper lot Of that colossal trailsystem, boundless and verdure The hiveminded and neurotic members stretch legs at 6."

Dear reader, I have been recently informed by our club secretary of new construction occurring at our beloved trail system. The details of which I shall recite to you from memory, as alas, my cellular device has entirely discharged not but 5 minutes prior to my undertaking of this very message. So do take into consideration that faculty which so defines us as Sapiens, that of our capacity to err, upon your further delving into our ensuing content. I digress, dear reader; the construction that which I so briefly hinted at in this epistolary correspondence's preamble, pertains to a nouveau sentier, taking the name of "Yard Sale". This very trail, while designed primarily for the conduit of bi-wheeled devices and which is yet to officially be sanctioned by the coalition owing to its inception, shall nevertheless prove ancillary towards our weekly, trail-oriented sojourns. Should its traversal prove untenable at this current junction, I hold no doubt towards our collective capacity in undertaking an alternative route, at the proverbial behest of its adjacent brethren. Please do arrive at the Gateway Park Meadowbrook Drive lot (no later than the 18th hour of this day), which is situated performantly as to usher us into today's run as a group. My dear readers, with hope that you shall reside in good health and superlative spirit until our next encounter, Yours, Emmet

Well folks, this is it: the last run of the semester. I’m headed to Kansas in the New Year to catch prairie chickens and do a bunch of stuff with 'em (elegantly put, I know), but I’m sure there will always be a place in my mind reserved for Pandapas. We’ll meet at the Upper lot this evening for a somewhat short Powerline-Horse Nettle loop. Bring a light and some water! I’ll see you this evening. -Henry![]()

Greetings! There is some confusion about this year's book hunt. IT IS STILL HAPPENING NEXT WEDNESDAY! We will be holding our annual Halloween Book Hunt on Wednesday, October 30 at 7:15 pm in front of Squires Student Center. This is a traditional event at VT dating back to at least 2005! Books will be hidden all over campus. You will be given a map with their locations along with hints/clues to find the books. When you find a book you rip the last page out and receive points based on the page number you have. Be the first to get to each book and receive maximum points. Teams are strongly recommended but they MUST STAY TOGETHER during the entire event. Individual participants are welcome as well. The team (or individual) with the most points will be declared the winner. This is a mass start event so you need to be at the start by 7:30 to compete. Costumes are encouraged and may be awarded bonus points at the race director's discretion. You can choose your mode of transportation but it must be human-powered (e.g., walk/run, bike, skateboard, scooter). NO MOTORIZED DEVICES ALLOWED! Also, note it will be dark so wear visible clothing and/or lights so that drivers will see you while running/riding around. A headlamp and a ziploc bag for the map are highly recommended. There is a suggested donation of $5 per map. Schedule: 7:15pm There will be a pre-race meeting in front of Squires Student Center (on College Ave) 7:25pm Maps will be handed out 7:30pm. The hunt will begin 7:45pm The hunt ends You must be back at Squires by 8:45. You will lose 100 points for each minute after 8:45 that you get back. Points will be tallied immediately after everyone finishes and a winner declared. This event is rain or shine. Come join us for some fun nighttime tomfoolery! Good morning everyone, We will be returning to our regularly scheduled programming today with a nice McDonalds Hollow Run, ~potentially~ followed up by a quick drink at Rising Silo. We'll meet at the Meadowbrook/Glade Road intersection parking lot and do a nice 5-ish miler to round out the first half of the week. Make sure to bring a headlamp, and text me at (540) 553-4132 if you need a ride from the Pylons. I'll see you this evening. -Henry

Run will start at the Glade Road Heritage Parking lot today; we'll run through the park and then go up McDonalds Hollow for a bit of a mix-up. See ya at 6:00!
Hello all, We will not be meeting for a run this evening. The trails at Pandapas are undoubtedly extremely wet, and to avoid any further damage we will not be meeting today. Additionally, there is now a boil water notice out for Montgomery County in light of the heavy inundation along the New River. I will let you all know about a potential run on Wednesday! -Henry
Good afternoon everyone, We will be doing a Gateway run this evening! We'll start from the Heritage Park lot across from Rising Silo (off of Glade Road) just like last week, and do an out-and-back through Heritage and up Gateway. Might have to swing across the road afterwards to hit the brewery and grab a quick drink. Text me at (540) 553-4132 if you need a ride from the Pylons! I got all my brakes and one of my rotors replaced yesterday, so my car is in excellent condition for ferrying. See ya this evening, Henry PS - It would probably be a good idea to bring a HEADLAMP today; it got real dark at the end of the run on Monday and I would hate for someone to fall.
Good morning gang, We'll be meeting at Pandapas for this evening's run, around 5-6 miles. It might be getting a bit dark by the end of it, so bring a head lamp if you're feeling uncertain about finding your footing. Text me at (540) 553-4132 if you need a ride at 5:45. I'll see ya this evening! -Henry

Good morning everyone! We will be meeting at McDonald's Hollow for this evening's run. The parking lot is at the corner of Meadowbrook Drive and Glade Road, just a little past Rising SIlo. It will be a fairly short run (likely around 5 miles) with one hill going up, some out and back on the ridge at the top, and one hill going down. I will once again be giving rides from the pylons, so let me know if you need one by texting me at (540)553-4132. See ya tonight! -Henry

Good morning Blacksburg, We are going to meet at Pandapas again for this evening's run! It will likely be on the hillier side, somewhere around 6-7 miles. You can't hide from the hills forever, and I once heard tell that hills are speed work in disguise. Anyways, I'll be giving rides from the pylons at 5:45. Text me at (540) 553-4132 if you need a ride. See ya then! -your President, Henry USAJobs-Is-A-Bitch-Coddington

Hello folks, This email is for those who are running the CRA in October. I am considering changing the date of the CRA to the weekend of October 21st. I have a couple of reasons for this. 1) Peak fall will be in the 2nd and 3rd week of October 2) I am going to watch a friend run a marathon on October 29th so I would be unable to run on the 28th and provide rides, do drops, etc. Let me know if you are unable to make this date. A google doc is attached below so people can vote if the 22nd or 21st works better for them and indicate their interest in running with the club. For those that want to run we will be having a meeting on October 13th at 5:00pm at the University mall (where the Math Lab is) to discuss the route, who is running the entire thing and who is running sections (so we can coordinate rides), and some other fueling tips etc. Thank you and have a great weekend. Oh wow guess what we're back. And also guess what? We ain't leaving. A few quotes to start off your morning: "Of all the paths you take in life, make sure a few of them are dirt." - Me (jk John Muir) "VT Ultra not only helped me slay outdoors, but they encouraged me to absolutely serve intellectually" - Einstein (probably) "VT Ultra isn't a club. It's a lifestyle. Thank you all for helping me build an empire" - Elon Musk (potentially) "Vt Ultra is the inspiration for all of my bestselling novels. Not only are they an absolute unit, but they also elevate any function by at least 97%" - Drew Barrymore (kinda) These are all maybe very real quotes by celebrities and John Muir That should make you want to come out to group run today. Be like Elon. Come build an empire with us. Deets 😆😜🙈✌ When: 6:00pm Where: Upper parking lot at pandapas Mileage: 8 miles Vert: a lot Attitude: feral Sincerely, Eva, I-need-to-study-but-I-am-currently-training-a-legion-of-ducks-at-the-duck-pond-to-fight-the-VT-football-team, Moeltner
Are you tired of classes? Do you hate having to find a parking spot every hour of the day then having to pay an arm and a leg for the farthest little corner of the Litton-Reaves Extension lot? Are you tired of lectures, labs, and doing classwork? These are serious symptoms of notgettingoffcampusenough. This disease affects more people than we know. I mean, I currently have it!!! Fear not, there is a cure! And oh. Oh oh oh. I know you already know what that cure is...... GROUP RUN!!!!🐸🐸🐸🐸 Listen up ducklings because the location is changing for this particular run because WE WANT DRINKS. We will be running from Heritage park then will be going to Rising Silo after to have a hoedown. If you cannot drink there is food and other non alcoholic options (kombucha, GINGERBEER (mmm mmm MMMMM)). The deets: Location: Heritage Trail Parking, 2300 Glade Rd, Blacksburg, VA 24060 Run: 5 mile out and back up Gateway (Steep but fun) then back to RISI Rides: Get on in the groupme and like the "rides" message I'm going to send out, or email me. Cloths: As always, very optional. I literally cannot wait to see you all there. Best, Eva, I-am-craving-gingerbeer-now, Moeltner
Good afternoon everyone, We’ll be meeting at the upper parking lot at Pandapas this evening just like always. You can expect about 5 miles of fun trails! I’ll be giving rides from the pylons at 5:45, so text me at (540) 553-4132 if you need a ride. ‘Til this evening, Henry
HEEEYYYY!!! VT Ultra admin just wants to thank everyone for an amazing first week full of trail frolicking. Y'all are awesome and it's great to see new faces enjoying nature. Some housekeeping and an overview of the semester: 1) Runs are usually 6pm at the pandapas upper parking lot Monday and Wednesday. Keep an eye out for the emails though because location is subject to change 2) We will be going to Rising Silo on Wednesday after group run. This will give us a chance to chat and become the best of friends (the brewery sells kombucha too for those who are not at full maturity). More info will be sent out about that in the Wednesday email. 3) We will keep you updated on crewing opportunities, local races, and club events over the next few weeks. Two big ones coming up: - Easter Divide (cascades, local) 50K is November 4th. I will be crewing some of our runners and if y'all want exposure to how an official ultra is structured I encourage you to come out. There is an 8 miler option as well. You can sign up on ultrasignup.com by looking up "Eastern Divide". - CRA (Triple Crown Loop)!! Annually the club runs the CRA in a day (takes me, an average to slow runner, 13 hours). We are planning to do this mid-late October to get some good training in beforehand. It is a very difficult run (36 miles, 10,000 feet of vert) but there is no time limit. I do recommend a good running base going into this activity. We ain't gonna stop you from trying this distance but we will not be able to save you if you collapse in the middle of the AT. This is 'an 'at your own risk' kinda deal. We have options to do shorter sections as well though (Dragons tooth - 10 miles, McAfee - 7 miles, North Mnt - 15 miles). If you want to pace for a section or crew instead of run the whole thing, get in the GroupMe. I'll be sending more announcements about the CRA logistics there. 4)If you have not joined the groupme already, do so! It is how we coordinate rides. I sent the link out in a previous email and don't feel like getting my phone outta my backpack (chronic laziness) so just email me if you need it again or I'll send out an email with the GroupMe link later. 5) We are not at GobblerFest this semester. We had to pay 270 whole bucks. With what money VT?!? So spread the word about how totally insanely radical this club is. BUT Bigfoot club has a booth and please for the love of god check that bad boy out bc bigfoot will make an appearance. I know that was long and wordy. I know you are tired of emails and classes and are counting the days down until summer break (263 days). But hey, you made it to the end. Good work you get a virtual high five. Sincerely, Eva, There-Are-Ants-Crawling-All-Over-Me-In-Cheatham-And-It's-Becoming-Unchill, Moeltner
Oh. Ohohohhhhh you knew this was coming. You've prepared yourself. But enough? If you're like me you have not run this entire summer but hey, this is what this club is for. GROUUUUPPPP RUNNNNNNNN TIIIIMMMMMMEEEEE If you're as hype as I am you're probably howling in the middle of NCB now. Feral is the theme of this semester so, act accordingly. I am so excited to send out the second email of this semester for a group run on wednesday! I'm doing it now because I remembered and I will forget these things later on. Logistics: Meet: Upper Parking Lot Pandapas Pond Route: 6 spicy miles with vert (Horsey snake, iykyk) Rides: Text the Ultra Group Chat for rides and if you aren't in the group chat then just email me and I'll get a head count. If you have a vehicle please take it. Currently my subaru fits only 1 person and I don't want another clown car situation. This problem will be fixed on monday and I can usually provide rides and carpool. If you are willing to drive homies email me or text the GC. Clothing: Optional Sincerely, Eva, I-really-don't-like-the-FDOC-thing-lets-just-pretend-it's-still-summer-and-trail-frolick, Moeltner

This event was started by runners, bikers, and other outdoor enthusiasts at VT back before 2005. Some students from those groups have continued to attend over the past several years. Feel free to come out at no cost and have some fun running or riding around campus. Let me know if you have questions. Books will be hidden all over campus. You will be given a map with their locations along with hints/clues to find the books. When you find a book you rip the last page out and receive points based on the page number you have. Be the first to get to each book and receive maximum points. The team (or individual) with the most points will be declared the winner. You can choose your mode of transportation but it must be human-powered (e.g., walk/run, bike, skateboard, scooter). NO MOTORIZED DEVICES ALLOWED! Suggested donation of $5 per map for non-student teams. Also, note it will be dark so wear visible clothing and/or lights so that drivers will see you while running/riding around. A headlamp and a ziploc bag for the map are highly recommended. Teams are strongly recommended but they MUST STAY TOGETHER during the entire event. Individual participants are welcome as well. 7:15pm There will be a pre-race meeting in front of Squires Student Center (on College Ave) 7:20pm Maps will be handed out 7:30pm The hunt will begin 8:45pm The hunt ends You must be back at Squires by 8:45. You will lose 100 points for each minute after 8:45 that you get back. Points will be tallied immediately after everyone finishes and a winner is declared. This event is rain or shine. You can see our list of other upcoming events here: https:// www.blueridgeorienteering.org/

Or if you are truly lost at this moment you can go through these steps to triangulate your location: 1) climb to the top of a hill so you have a 360 degree view of your surroundings 2) find a landmark that you recognize and you can identify on your map 3) take out your compass and gauge the bearing of that land mark 4) repeat steps 2 and 3 with two other land marks 5) draw the 3 lines of your bearings and boom you have triangulated your location 6) go down the hill spin around 3 times and repeat “there’s no place like Jefferson National Forest Pandapas Pond Recreation Area.” And you’ll materialize at the upper parking lot. Or just use Google maps I don’t control you. As a summary: Where: pandapas upper parking lot When: 6:00 pm Who to text for rides from the pylons at 5:45: 540-739-5234 (no later than 4:00 plz) Long distance: 8 miles Short distance: 1.5-2 miles Mark Twain Quote: “Go to Heaven for the climate, Hell for the company.” Sincerely, Eva “I have trouble getting lost a lot and still don’t know how to use a compass so me leading this run is gonna be a little adventure for all of us where 8 turns into 30 miles but don’t worry about it” Moeltner
Hey there! I've got two orders of business to lay on ya: info for the group run tonight and the weekly newsletter (but not a boring newsletter, ew, no, not that. this is a cool newsletter for cool people only. not sure if you're a cool person? the best way to know for sure is to read the newsletter, because cool people read the newsletter). Group Run Tonight! When: Tonight, 6pm (bring a headlamp if you have one) Where: NEW LOCATION! We'll be starting from HERE, it's about a twenty minute drive from campus so give yourself some extra time if you're driving separately. Rides: leaving from the Pylons at 5:40. HEY!!! Hey! hey ;) It's Thursday, which means we're doing the best kind of running (subjectively, with infinite bias): short, sweet, and slow with lots of distractions. Tonight's run will be at a new location, Heritage Park! We'll be running 1-2 miles and checking out some of the local landmarks at the park. Most of the landmarks are less than a quarter mile from the parking lot, so if you'd like to come out to walk instead, you're welcome to! We'd love to see ya! We'll start at 5:00, and rides will leave from the Pylons at 4:45. Please text me at (434)660-2095 by 4:00 if you need a ride. Prepare to run on some pavement and some grass. It's going to be pretty chilly and windy too, so wear layers. Bring a headlamp if you have one, we may not need them but better safe than sorry. Cya there! Grace "we BETTER see you there, or else" Steger P.S. bring a fun fact with you, the most amazing fun fact will win a prize example A: giant clams are the biggest bivalves and can grow up to 4ft long and live up to 100 years example B: cowboys are frequently secretly fond of each other (Willie Nelson) example C: one time my sister cut off the end of her finger in a door hinge so now her medical record says she has 9.9 fingers P.P.S. idk what the prize is yet but it'll be worth your time, I pinky promise
Since the trails are going to be so so soo muddy and we want to practice good environmental trail stewardship (we must all fight our wild animal tendencies to get mud drenched) we will be running in town today. Meet at the pylons at 6:00 pm. No rides today since we will just boost from the pylons. We may have two runs, one distance will be 8 miles the other will be TBD but less than 5. DO NOT GO TO PDAPS!!! Your VP, Eva
Howdy folks, hope y'all are staying dry...for now. Let's get muddy! Meet at the upper parking lot at pandapas, 6:00 pm. Text 540-739-5234 for rides by 4:00pm. The long run today will be a challenging 8 miles, short run will be around 3-5 miles. Either way, we will be mud grubs by the end. This is amazing motivation as mud grubbing is one of my favorite pastimes (almost better than bigfoot hunting and howling at the moon...almost). We'll see ya out there! Best, Eva (Goated-With-The-Sauce-Mud-Goblin-Style) Moeltner
Hello All, The sun is shining on a new day of trail running. Well, I imagine the sun is shining, as it’s probably somewhere behind all the clouds that have covered Blacksburg for the past two months. Anyways…we have a real nice 5-6 miler planned for y’all this evening, full of mystique and intrigue. We will be meeting, as per usual, at the Pandapas Upper Lot at 6:00 pm in the friscalating dusklight. If you are in need of a ride from the pylons, text Eva at +1 (540) 739-5234. Make sure to bring a headlamp, unless you are blessed with superior night vision. In that case, just bring water! Til this evening, -Henry (/HCodd/Dirty Hippie/Sir Galahad/Coddfish/Hank/Hennessy)
Hello and welcome to a new semester with VT Ultra! (that's what we call ourselves around these parts :) I'm your host, Grace Steger, club president. In this ridiculously long email I'm going to fill you in on a couple of things. So that you can skip to whatever you want to read and ignore the rest, here's what's up: - general information about the club and membership - highlights and pictures from last year - upcoming events this week - upcoming events this semester General Information about the Club and Membership We're one of a few clubs on campus that focus on running, but obviously we're the best one (you'll see why). We call ourselves the trail-running club, the ultramarathon club, and most often of all Ultra. As the name implies, we run on trails, and if ya want to, we provide an opportunity to train for and compete in ultramarathons. *fun fact: an ultramarathon is any run above marathon distance (>26.2 miles) Some things about club structure: - There are no membership dues, and there are no requirements to join. Come whenever you want, leave whenever you please :) - We have a small group of admin that help run the show. You'll see emails from them, and they'll often be the ones providing rides and leading group runs. President: me, Grace Photographer: Henry VP (Viper Protagonist): Eva Sergeant of Bafoonery and Bodaciousness: Davida - We have who-knows-how-many members, but about 10-20 people usually join us for group runs. Students, staff, community members, squirrel watchers, and bigfoot connoisseurs are welcome to attend. Some things about club function: - Our goal is to create a community to grow in and just have a good time running together. We're switching some things up this semester to make the space inclusive of more skill levels, so if you've been wanting to join but can't do 8 miles right off the bat, we've got your back!! - The majority of club events are group runs! A group run typically looks like a couple miles on local trails. Each runner runs at their own pace, and we wait for each other at each trail intersection. Each week we'll send out the tentative plan for the group runs, and each day of a run, we'll send out an email at least a couple miles before the run with more details. Most will be at Pandapas Pond, which is the biggest public access point to the Poverty Creek Trail System in the Jefferson National Forest. The club is VERY fortunate to have such easy access to a national forest, so hug some trees while you visit (or don't, I'm not your dad). - The club and some members will attend and/or race ultramarathons throughout the year. It's a hoot and a holler to come, we suffer and have a great time all in one. It's typically a multi-day experience; we camp, eat, volunteer, and run as a club. - Other stuff!! You can't help but become friends after so many muddy, sweaty, miserably fun miles together. Soon enough, you'll be grabbing boba and lighting bonfires with us, whether you like it or not. -> group run: an activity in which goons and goobs galavant gloriously, giggling and going.. groundhog... goose.... goblins.......... g-words.... gamble.... greg. -> ultramarathon: does not, in fact, mean 100 miles. only under special circumstances does it mean 100 miles. see above* Highlights and Pictures from Previous Semesters Our lovely club photographer and Brush-Mountain-native Henry (+ some other less-photographically-inclined folks) have taken some great pics over the years of the club. Here are some of our favorites! PHOTO ALBUM -> if you can't access the link, I probably did something wrong, so email me and I'll fix it :) Upcoming Events This Week This week's group runs will look like this, with updates and details to come day-of! DAY LOCATION TIME DISTANCE Pandapas Pond 6:00 pm Monday 5-6 miles Upper Lot (rides leave at 5:45) Pandapas Pond 6:00 pm Higher distance tbd Wednesday & Upper Lot (rides leave at 5:45) Lower distance tbd Thursday Pandapas Pond Lower TBD Lower distance tbd Lot Pandapas Pond Upper Lot Location Upcoming Events This Semester These aren't set in stone, and I'll be creating a calendar with more details (keep an eye out in the next few weeks), but here's a preview of what's to come: - Holiday Lake 25k and 50k - collaboration with the Squirrel Watching Club (SWCVT) - various hikes, long runs, and camping trips on the weekends - Promise Land 50k - fun runs with funky themes (what happens at fun run stays at fun run. rule #1: don't talk about fun run) - many trips to Rising Silo - trail work days OK byeeee. Oh heyyy, The spookiest season of group run begins tonight; welcome to October. Today's group run will be at 6pm at the Pandapas Pond Upper Lot. Hey all you cool cats, That's right, group run tonight, 6pm, Pandapas Upper Lot. Rides leave from the Pylons at 5:45, so text Eva at (540) 739-5234 if you need one! Details for tonight's run: It's Crop Top Wednesday! This is a lil tradition the group haphazardly carries on, so come in your finest, most spectacularly abbreviated shirt (or don't, if you don't feel comfortable you are absolutely still free to join in the camaraderie with your full apparel). It'll be about an 8 mile run and will likely extend after sunset, so bring a headlamp and a good attitude to round out this humpday! Duces, Grace "put some miles on your shoes for me" Steger stegerg20@vt.edu P.S. I'm so sorry to all of you who have asked to be taken off the email chain and haven't yet, it's a work in progress
